Technology

technology

The most basic definition of technology is given as the manner in which we do things; and the manner in which we do things is aptly captured by Cordyceps. Think of it this way; what is essentially a weed is converted into a poultice, a concoction, a medicinal extract that will quell whatever ailment ails an individual. Now that is what technology is all about- value addition. This is a fine example of what technology when harnessed to aide the progression on mankind can benefit the family of humanity. The flip side of this construct is that technology can also have its own downside; a dark side. This is illustrated below:

The best example of technology gone bad is exemplified by their internet – let’s face it its transformed every sphere of our lives – from the manner in which business is conducted (via e-commerce), the manner by which folks access information (via search engines and virtual libraries such as Wikipedia). The flip side of this progression is that the same information superhighway is used to execute devious plans crafted by wily individuals in society. To this end, you have folk who engage in identity theft, or folk who will trash tenets of civilized society and use this newfound tool to change the rules of well-established ground rules (think of how social news media violates some cardinal rules of journalism).

The article is not calling on readers to be Luddites – a social protest group that was violently opposed to the Industrial Revolution in 18th century England. What the article calls for is for individuals to ensure that society will essentially balance between the good and the evil that is represented by technology. Like the legendary sword that hung over the head of Damocles society does well to realize that poorly harnessed technology can be a tragedy in waiting. Only then will humanity echo the words of the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, regarding technology: One small step for man, one giant leap for humanity.

Better Browser Compatibility Means Better Website

The web is swamped with new standards, programming languages, and other “goodies”. Some of these new technologies give birth to very neat ways of conveying a message to the web site visitor. Clever, flashy, never seen before… Wait a minute. Can’t load applet? What?

Yes, for years they told you “The best web site in the world is worthless if no one finds it”. True. So why do these same people design web sites that are not compatible with anything but the newest version of the major web browsers, only one type of web browser, or design Web Sites that require a very recent CPU in order to display at a normal speed?

It seems that too many high tech companies lose sight of the world that their clients live in. They seem to forget that not everyone checks for web browser upgrades on daily basis, or purchase a new computer every couple of years to keep up with the standards. Not everyone uses Internet Explorer, few people have the patience to watch a Flash opening each time they visit the Web Site, and even less people know what “This page was designed for 1024×768 or higher resolution.” means.

As I was recommended by Chicago SEO Services, in the everyday design of web sites you need to use the most up to date standards, not the most up to date gadgets supported by five percent of the web population. What does that mean? It means more people will see your page the way it was actually meant to be seen, search engines will better crawl your website & give it better rankings, people they will be able to read everything you have to say, and the design will not cost you as much as your business plan or a “High Tech Web Site” from the other guys.

Firefox and Selling a Wine of the Month Club Online

Firefox is one of those great success stories.  They shouldn’t have ever made it, but they did.  They entered a business (browsers and email programs) which is incredibly competitive both in terms of programming, but also in terms of marketing.

I mean, would you want to compete with Microsoft and Google?

I wouldn’t, but then again my wine of the month club is competing with names like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times and even Sunset Magazine.  I guess that doesn’t make for an easy entry point into the market either.

What I take from Firefox and from Mozilla is that through technology small companies have an opportunity to fight against much larger competitors.  That’s what I’m hoping to do.

iPad 2 Jailbreak and Using Firefox Web Browser

ipad 2 jailbreak and firefox browserThe iPad 2 is one of the most innovative gadgets that have been created by Apple Corporation for the market. Although there a lot of other tablets in the market, the Apple iPad is still different in the sense that it makes use of a different operating system. The problem is that sometimes, certain applications are not compatible with the gadget. The good news is that there is a solution to this — which is the iPad 2 Jailbreak.

The Apple iPad makes use of a different type of browser which is the Safari. There is nothing wrong with this particular type of browser it’s just that for some people they have grown accustomed to making use of other browsers such as the Firefox Web Browser. The problem is Firefox Web Browser would effectively work on the iPad 2 only when the iPad 2 jailbreak has been released.

Unfortunately, unlike the jailbreak for the 1st installment of the iPad, the iPad 2 Jailbreak is not completely developed. Sure you can get a decent iPad 2 Jailbreak but the problem is there are still a lot of glitches with the software. Also, since it’s a relatively new technology, the iPad 2 Jailbreak is a little more costly in comparison to the regular jailbreak for the first iPad.

If you’re concern is that the iPad 2 Jailbreak is only for the use of the Firefox Web Browser well you may want to think twice. Having the jailbreak has several advantages such as being able to install full applications and not the trial versions anymore without having to pay for the full price. Despite the fact that an iPad 2 Jailbreak is a little costly, you would still be able to save for the money you could potentially save on applications.

Remember that the second instalment of Apple’s tablet as well as the iPad 2 Jailbreak is relatively new in the market. So if you are considering getting your new tab installed with jailbreak software, you might want to wait in order to really get an established version of the software.

Tech In Oral Appliance Therapy Greatly Helps Sleep Apnea Patients

Technology enhancements go hand in hand for pretty much every field in the medial industry.  But for sleep apnea patients recently the tech in oral appliance therapy is a major breakthrough.  No longer do people need to be held back by the CPAP machine.  Patients with mild to moderate cases of sleep apnea can instead opt to get an oral device that will treat their apnea while avoiding the annoying and uncomfortable CPAP machine.  And to add more to the equation each and every year companies are developing better oral devices so at some point the hope is there will no longer ever be the need for a CPAP machine for any sleep apnea case.

High Tech Software Keeps Debt Relief Programs In Line

When you enter into a debt relief program all of your creditor information must be entered into a data bank of the company you are dealing with.  This is due to the large amounts of accounts they deal with on a daily basis.  Thus making it imperative that the technology of these programs is up to date and functioning properly in order to execute the negotiations smoothly.  Without such programs it would be much more labor intensive for these companies to do business, therefore demanding these companies to hire more employees and ultimately charge higher fees to remain in business.  So these wonderful software programs help both the consumer and the company to get the job done properly.

Fascinating Technology in Your Kitchen Sink!

We all love the technology that is brought to us by cool companies like Mozilla, but what about the technology that is hanging around our household?

I recently had a chance to learn about the technology that powers an under sink water filter, a device I recently purchased to help purify my drinking water.  Here’s what it does:

The filter pulls water from the tap into filtration tanks that each serve their own purpose (e.g., some remove fluoride, others bacteria and cysts, and so on).  They’re typically carbon filters, which means they use activated carbon that absorbs the toxins and doesn’t let them pass through to the filtered water.

The water is then sent back up to your sink, sometimes through a separate faucet and sometimes through your original.  And there you have it — filtered drinking water!

I think the most fascinating part is that what seems like it should be a complicated, technologically advanced system is actually very simple: harnessing the power of activated carbon to remove undesirable compounds.  Who knew something so powerful (purified drinking water) could be achieved using such a simple process?

The Clyde – The First NBA Basketball Shoe

These days is you head into a Footlocker store, great Footlocker coupons in hand looking for a great pair of basketball sneakers you might be forgiven for thinking that almost every NBA star has his own line of sneakers and that they are all for sale right there!

These days that is almost the case. LeBron, Dwayne, Kobe, CP3, Carmelo, Amare, Dwight and many others all have their own signature shoe line. But how many of you know which NBA player was actually the first to ever have a pair of sneakers named after him?

That honor went to Walt “Clyde” Frazier, the flamboyant and very fashionable star of the 1970 and 1971 championship winning New York Knicks team. The shoes were called “Clydes” and they were made by Puma. What is even more interesting though is that they are still popular and production over three decades later, as Walt Clyde is the color commentator for the Knicks TV channel and as far as New Yorkers are concerned still very much in the public eye.
